2.27.2010 Update From David

The Lord has blessed tremendously the last few months in that we have had enough men to have two groups to hit the streets of Hartford. Thank the Lord, and thank you who come out on Saturday and make that possible.

It was a chilly and snowy day, but, as Benaiah in I Chronicles 11:22, we had a lion to slay. The Lord allowed us to preach for about half an hour near Center Church. It was there that Herb and I also had the opportunity to speak with a man named Sean about his soul. He was very blinded to the truth, and wouldn't let us answer his questions. At one point I told him that if he wouldn't allow us to answer his questions, we couldn't help him and would have to part ways. He then allowed us to open the scriptures that once, and give him God's answer for his question. He is very confused and needs the Lord. Pray that what little scripture we were able to share would get through whatever is confusing and blinding him and would bear fruit unto eternal life.

We were also able to preach up next to the Old State House, which is a favorite spot of ours. The guys were able to pass out a fair number of tracts as well today. There were several other people with whom the other group was able to speak with. Pray that God would convict their hearts of their need of the Saviour, as well as the rest who heard the preaching today.

Thanks as always for your prayers.

This week FBBC started its spring semester of our Bible Institute. This year marks the 19th year of the Kings Bible Institute (KBI). Last evening I started Preparation & Preaching II. I really love teaching verse by verse studies of various books of the Bible. What a joy it is to open up the AV 1611 and examine this pure, perfect Bible in great detail with the students. The second greatest thrill for me is teaching the pastoral classes such as Prep & Preaching and Church Administration to those men who have a desire to be involved in the ministry one day. I have 5 men in this class who also took P&P I last semester. I pray that I will be a blessing to these men this semester.
After class I quickly left to make an appointment I had scheduled and it was an appointment I did not want to miss or reschedule. There has been a lady attending our church with her saved husband for about a year now. She has believed that she and God were on the same page and she believed that her soul was fine. However, during the last few months she has been under conviction and just within the last few weeks got saved. She really didn't say anything to anyone but her husband noticed that she was reading the bible I gave to her about two months ago. She read the bible faithfully everyday. I recently received a birthday card from the two of them and she wrote a brief statement in the card to the effect that she appreciated my help in her getting saved. She then told my associate pastor that she wanted to be baptized. I immediately set up the appointment for last night. So, after class I drove straight to their home and heard from her that she truly had been saved! I am on shouting ground! PRAISE THE LORD for HIS working in her heart these many months! So, she will be getting baptized this Sunday morning! THANK YOU LORD for allowing me to see things just like this over the last 26 years!

Sunday AM

This morning I preached on the texts Matthew 22:42 "What think ye of Christ" and Matthew 27:42 "What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ?"
The answer is to receive or reject, accept or deny, be 'for' or 'against'.

I was unsure why the Lord had laid these texts and this message upon my heart to preach today as I had been preaching a series of messages on "The Will of God" for the last 3 weeks. Well, God's will for the lost is salvation, He is "not willing that any should perish, but that all would come to repentance". As I stood at the pulpit and scanned the congregation I saw not one person that was a visitor that might be lost. In my mind I thought, "Well Lord, is this message for one of the congregation who is lost? Maybe. But then I glanced to my right and saw a man who has visited several times in the past couple of years, a lost Jewish man. I had spent time with him in the past about salvation but he had never received that truth, at least not to my knowledge. There he was, sitting in the congregation. So I preached the message and gave the invitation. He raised his hand for prayer. I was praying fervently that he would step forward, but, alas, he did not move. I pleaded for those who were lost to come and allow someone to help answer their questions and answer the questions, "What think ye of Christ" and "What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ?" No movement.
,
Well the service ended and I was hoping to get another chance to speak with this dear soul. (I was standing in the lobby when one of the men in our church told me that that visitor came into the service after I had already started preaching. That is why I didn't see him right away.) Please pray for this dear one to fall under holy Spirit conviction of sin, righteousness and the judgment of God so he would repent of his sin and trust the Lord Jesus Christ as his Messiah and Saviour and God!

CONTENTMENT

Leaning on his fence one day, a devout Quaker was watching a new neighbor move in next door. After all kinds of modern appliances, electronic gadgets, plush furniture, and costly wall hangings had been carried in, the onlooker called over, "If you find you're lacking anything, neighbor, let me know and I'll show you how to live without it."

Contentment is not found in "stuff" or "things" but in a Person! That Person is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ. Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

So, again, contentment is not the results of “stuff” but rather, the Saviour.

Some additional food for thought from the word of God:

Proverbs 15:16-17 Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith. 17 Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.

Proverbs 16:8 Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right.

Proverbs 28:6 Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.

Psalms 37:16 A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked.

Proverbs 10:22 The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.

CHRISTIAN IDOL WORSHIP?

Does anyone think that a Christian will miss church and a time to worship the King of kings and Lord of lords for an Idol worship service?
Hmmmmm! Me thinks "yes!"

Monday, February 1, 2010

We just finished a wonderful week of preaching and fellowship with the Lord and the brethren here at church. This marked a couple milestones in my life. I turned 60 years old this month and it was the 26th anniversary of this wonderful church. We had Pastor Scott Strobel from FBBC of Lockport, NY here with us since last Monday evening. The Lord used Brother Strobel to minister the word of God to us each evening. THANK YOU LORD for using this dear brother to help us along in our desire to remain faithful and true to the word of God and the Lord Jesus Christ. Through the messages we were greatly encouraged to continue to press forward for the Lord! Our theme for 2010 is "Seek that ye may EXCEL" (1 Corinthians 14:12) and the messages preached this past week certainly helped to burn that theme deep into out hearts.

Friday evening we all enjoyed a sweet time of fellowship around godly conversation, special music, preaching, laughs, and a delicious meal prepared by our church family.

I am a blessed man in so many ways! I am saved and on my way to spend eternity with my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. I am married to the sweetest Christian lady who truly loves the Lord with all of her heart. I have a wonderful Christian family. I have the honor to pastor the greatest church in the world, First Bible Baptist Church of Plainville, CT! I thank you Lord for your goodness, mercy, grace and love you have demonstarted to me over and over during my entire lifetime.
